Description The video tackles human relationships and feelings when they are mediated through digital media. Based on a musical score these bits of video are being played in a way to provoke and agitate. Leaving more space for the viewer to explore. This video is part of a video art project titled: Techno Me.

Interruptions presents- [CATS: the Workshop!]

Workshop:
Interruptions recruits designers from multiple disciplines for a secret design mission called upon by the [Under Ground Cat Society]- Participants are to, collaboratively, reform an urban setting to meet the requirements of 'cats' as living beings parallel to humans and have certain characteristics, community structure, needs and affiliations.
10-15 participants will be selected for a one week workshop hosted at [Makan 15th -22nd August]

Story:
the Interruptions team have been invited to a top secret meeting with an anonymous governmental official. The meeting promises to disclose crucial confidential data, something that will surely, if ever leaked to the people, shake the very foundation of its fragile society.

upon entering the meeting room, however, the team find themselves, completely on their own. Unless you count the large, orange tabby cat sitting upright on the meeting table. The cat, licking its whiskers (slightly maliciously, you might say) quite simply, proceeds to talk. (Alice de ja vu, anyone?)

It tells the flabbergasted team of a secret underground society, one that has been slowly forming over the past few decades. It tells them that the members of that society had had enough. Living be the upper caste's rules was no longer acceptable. "We live by their rules, We eat by their rules, We breathe by their rules, we bloody die by their freakin rules"

This secret society has taken it upon themselves to start creating their own little world. Right under the nose of the humans, the furry little members forage for raw material and castaways, and use them to build their own enclosures and private spaces, mechanisms to make their life easier and safer, freeways and secret roads.

The orange tabby takes the team on a tour of the hidden feline society. Only, they discover that its not so much hidden as unseen. They have simply never looked before. Under the cars, in the trash cans, alley ways... you've seen the cat, but you've never seen what's behind the cat. All the better, where the cat is concerned.

- testing potentials and possibilities of multi-disciplinary design approach

- Participants are expected to join us from the 15th to the 22nd of August, All evenings (after 6.00 pm) except two full days on weekends.

Omrania|CSBE Student Award for Excellence in Architectural Design

Dear friends and colleagues,

After a successful launch in 2008, Omrania and Associates and the Center for the Study of the Built Environment have expanded their Student Award beyond Jordan to include all Arab countries. The Award, which is given to the most outstanding architectural graduation projects submitted, aims at recognizing quality in the teaching of architecture in the Arab world, and at encouraging students in schools to excel in their design performance.

Submission

This consists of the student's submission for his / her final-year graduation design project. No additional work may be done to the project except for re-formatting it onto 2 sheets. The submission deadline is August 31, 2009, and submissions will be accepted beginning on August 1, 2009.

Jury

Projects will be evaluated by a highly-distinguished, independent jury. This year's jury members are:

· Farrokh Derakhshani, Director, Aga Khan Award for Architecture, Geneva, Switzerland (Mr. Derakhshani's participation is made possible through the kind support of the Aga Khan Award for Architecture)

· Saleh Al Hathloul, Advisor, Arriyadh Development Authority; former Deputy Minster for Town Planning, Ministry of Municipal and Rural Affairs, Riyadh, Saudi Arabia

· Khalid Nahhas, Senior Architect and Founding Associate Director, Symbiosis Designs, Amman, Jordan

Prizes

The Jury will select the top three projects. These will be awarded the following prizes:

· First Prize of 3,500 USD

· Second Prize of 2,500 USD

· Third Prize of 1,500 USD

The winners will be invited to receive their prizes in an Award ceremony to be held in Amman, Jordan.

The projects will be displayed in an Award exhibition that follows the ceremony. The winning projects also will be published in the CSBE website and in other print and online professional publications.

Eligibility

To be eligible for the Award, one needs to have been during the 2008 - 2009 academic year a final-year student for a Bachelor's Degree in Architecture or Architectural Engineering at a university located in a country belonging to the Arab League. Applicants should have successfully completed and defended their final-year architectural design graduation project before the Award's submission deadline.

Here we go;

Below are 3 very different, very simple thoughts on how two dots on a single white sheet of paper can be connected.

I've posted these to further clarify; you can do whatever, i'm starting to feel that there are those who want to do the exercise and think they don't have time, or their idea is not good enough (well in this scenario there is no such thing as a bad idea)

Interruptions Team to be Technologically Baptized!!

So as it appears the attempts to 'technologize' interruptions aren't going to be easy!
Now that we are 46 posts ahead since first creating the blog 8529 words has been published on the blog! and mostly by interruptionists with no 'blogging history'!
The recent attempt to channel Interruptionists through watwet has failed so far! My attempts to sell the idea as a virtual interruptive network, networking ideas, maximizing 'reach' potentials and ofcourse the top argument: watwet updates are FREE! has failed too!

so here's how it'll go, tomorrow we are meeting at bake-house rainbow for breakfast at 9.00 a laptop would be present, all interruptionists cellphones would be present as well and ready for each interruptionist to be technologically baptized! Else, no one is allowed to have a moning pancake!

Mayor Omar Maani comments on 360east regarding the Sanaya Amman skyscraper adsApril 28th, 2009 My post about the Sanaya Amman advertising campaign, has attracted the attention of Mayor Omar Maani himself. Commenting on that post he wrote: I must agree the adverts look like the towers are touching the heavens when no other building dared do this. Although more than sixty stories in height, I assure all that it starts at one of the lowest points in Amman, in area A designated for high density mixed use, after a lot of studies, care & attention to the urban fabric of the city & the unique skyline of Amman. I am having a word with the developers on this.I think this is great. It is clear that the mayor has a sensitive understanding of Amman’s identity and urban image, which goes beyond the dealing with the city only as an ‘engineering’ or ‘traffic problem’ to be solved or as an ‘investment promotion’ issue. High rise developments are indeed part of most regional capitals’ future (although with the current financial crisis gripping the world, one wonders how many of the developer’s high rise dreams in Amman or elsewhere will be realized!). What’s important is that our city decision makers in the public and private sector acquire an understanding of Amman that deals with urban identity as a whole, beyond the mere planting of grandiose “icons” all over the place. One little know fact is that when Omar Maani took over as mayor a few years ago (at the hight of the real estate craze), there where a dozen or so approved or semi-approved tower developments, that looked as if they were copied straight from Dubai, planned between the 4th and 8th circle. Without the intervention of the mayor we would today be dealing with several (semi completed eyesores and potential traffic black spot along Zahran street and elsewhere. In Amman, we don’t elect our mayors (yet). One of Amman’s biggest challenges is the lack of public participation. It is encouraging that our mayor is trying to listen, wether through reading blogs (and commenting on them:-) or through listening to what the young people of the city have to say in public meetings like the Amman Centennial Forum recently. I just hope this momentum and spirit continues, as Amman has great challenges to face on every level of its existence..

after the Banana?

…so we put a banana on the cover and it starts a controversy! We do exist in a Context which truly requires interruption/s of all sorts!
Almost 30 Bananas were shot for the back cover of the late Edition, which was printed in 1300 copies- that adds up to 39000 Bananas out there making more and more of us slip in to join our ‘interruptionist’ network.

Each individual input makes Interruptions, probably this what the ‘s’ in Interruption/s is for, it is a collective of these individual initiative to locate Interruptions in various levels, disciplines, topics and express them in various ways- it is this particular issue which we chose to experiment with for our next edition.
We are all interruptionists only because each of us share his/her own, unique, personal, elaborative share of interruptions. Each perceives interruptions and is an interruptionist at once. And it’s the second value we aim to stress, active Interruption.

In our last meeting at Muhtaraf al Rimal, each of us told stories of Interruptions, contextual, cultural, social, artistic.. it all added up to different sets of perspective by where to locate these interruptions, analyze them, portray them and express them.

…travelling the city on foot is an invitation to be interrupted, one’s journey is interrupted visually, the attraction and the hidden scenarios of place, and people. Iman mentioned as an example.

Lucid dreams were another example Hadi and Ali are discussing next issue; Lucid dreams as a constructed imagination which you acknowledge when being interrupted/awaken: and the moment of Interruption as the moment when the fate of these dreams is decided.

So after the Banana, we wish to experiment more with Interruptions, the essence/concept of an ‘interruption’- and this constitute our topics.
We also aim to engage ourselves more as interruptionist rather than observant; and this would suggest the process/inverstigation.
And we may also experiment with methods to express these experiments and this may provide us with various forms of visualization, and article presentation.

These are raw thoughts I chose to write quickly as to start our discussions here on the blog which aims to activate an on-line brainstorming/discussion channel
